Very Vintage... my first ever DT card - 'Lots of Layers' at MyPartner In Crafting Crime!! :)

Hello!! :)

Ooh, bit earllier than usual for me but I’m sooo excited to finally be able to show you my first ever DT card for My Partner In Crafting Crime!! :) The challenge this fortnight is to ‘Lots of Layers' so we'd like to see 3 or more layers on your creations- and boy did I have fun with that after all the CAS cards I’ve been making recently!! Got lovely and inky while I was about it, too!! :) There are some extra prizes to be won from our sponsors Bows and Berries Digital Stamps this time, too!! :)

I wanted to do something a bit special and different for my first DT card ever- sorry, promise I’ll stop saying that soon!!lol- and so I pulled out a few things I’ve been meaning to play with for a while- in particular, my TH Tattered Florals die, which I’ve been wanting to try with all the layers together and that suited this challenge perfectly, and my delicious Core’dinations Chocolate Box Cardstock- and this is what happened... :)

I was having so much fun that I barely noticed the time passing as I made this but I suspect it’ll take a bit of explaining so I’ll get on with it!! ;) I started simply... by making sure I had the right colour of card to match the Victorian Velvet DI I wanted to use- and luckily one of the sheets matched perfectly so I was feeling positive!!lol I hate when you get all excited about something then find none of your card/inks/pens are the right colour match!! :S I spritzed some cream paper with Shimmer Spray and, once it was dry, ran it through my bug with the TH die. Then I stamped a swirl randomly over the flowers in Victorian Velvet and inked the edges of each layer, alternating between Vintage Photo and VV again and adding just a touch of VP to the pink layers, too. The swirls are from the same spritzed paper, overstamped in Forest Moss and inked in FM and a little VP to tone in. I also inked the butterfly and mat layer in VV and VP inks and coloured another mat layer with dark brown PMs for contrast- and for another layer, that is the point after all!! ;) The beautiful Chocolate Box card- I’ve just bought another pad of this so maybe I’ll use it more often now I’m not thinking ‘It’s too nice, I should save it for something more special’!!lol- is embossed with C’bug’s Stylised Flowers folder and then sanded- and I think I also used my Paper Distresser on the edges :) Then all of that went onto one of my new Kraft card blanks and I added some pearls to finish it off :) I did consider adding some Stickles but all the ones I’ve got seemed a bit too glitzy for this card... maybe I’ll have to get a couple of the Distress ones to add to my collection!!lol

The incredibly huge pearl in the centre of the flower came in a kit I got years ago and I’ve never used any of them before- they seem perfect for this though so I’m going to have to see if I can find any similarly, gorgeously huge anywhere, I think, cos I only have a couple more!! :)

I used:
  • Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Die
  • Cream Paper
  • Swirl stamp from My Paper World
  • Marianne D Swirl Die
  • DIs - Vintage Photo, Victorian Velvet and Forest Moss
  • Perfect Pearls Shimmer Mist - Pearl
  • Core’dinations Chocolate Box cardstock
  • Cuttlebug Stylised flowers Embossing Folder
  • Plain Paper coloured with Promarkers for matting
  • MS Butterfly Punch
  • Flat-backed Pearls – small Mink and large cream from stash

I’d like to enter this card in the following challenges: The Stampman – Anything Tim :) ; Bows and Berries – Inspired By Nature :) ; Paper Sundaes – Spring Blossoms :) ; Dream Valley – Things with Wings (hope my butterfly’s okay!) :) ; The Secret Crafter – Butterflies :) ; Allsorts - Blooming Blossoms :)

So, that’s my first ever DT post- I said ‘post’ this time, not ‘card’!! ;D – almost done and dusted... I really hope that you like this card as much as I do- I really did enjoy making it so much and think you’ll be seeing more of these flowers now I’ve finally got my finger out and tried them properly for the first time!! :) Please pop over to My Partner In Crafting Crime and have a look at the gorgeous cards the rest of the DT have made and maybe get inspired to join in yourself this fortnight!! :)

All that’s left to say now is that I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that the Mums and Grandmas amongst you were spoilt rotten yesterday!! :) My Mother’s Day card was completed in time and, I’m pleased to say, was well received!! :) I will share it with you soon- it’s not that spectacular considering all the angst and how long it took to get done but even I now ‘like’ it at least- I think!lol- so I’m prepared to share!! ;) I've also managed to make a card for LIM already- shock horror, within the weekend!!- so will be back with that at some point, too!! :)

hugs,

I love this card Rachel. I've never tried making a vintage looking card, sounds like it took you ages, but it was worth it for the outcome - think I'll stick with my CAS style though! xx

Hi Rachel. Love your first ever DT card (I think you should tell people that it's your FIRST EVER DT CARD, cos they might not realise ;) he he. Your Kraft card blanks are great, where did you find them? Really like your layout and the gorgeous flower certainly deserves to be the focus. Yes, your butterfly is perfect for our Things With Wings challenge, thanks for joining in with us. I don't think I began visiting your blog pre-LIM so it's nice to see your fancy designs too. Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog, I see what you mean about LIM being good for low-energy, a lot less to do, but I reckon it must take a lot more thinking about. Suppose it depends whether I have more physical or mental energy at the time. Have a good evening! CoB
